Short bio
Heleven is a progressive / alternative metal band from Granada, Spain, formed in 2016. Four albums on Art Gates Records —Medusa's Love Story (2019), Into the Oceans (2021) and the New Horizons diptych PT.1 (2023) and PT.2 (2024)— trace a sonic journey that moves between the cinematic, the aggressive and the emotional. In 2026 the band confirms dates at Cuervo Blanco Fest (Almería), Noise Chapel Fest (Valencia), Rock Imperium Festival (Cartagena) and Leyendas del Rock (Villena).
Long bio
Heleven was born in Granada, Spain, in 2016, founded by Higinio Ruiz (vocals, guitar) and Álvaro Castilla (guitar). The line-up consolidated with the arrival of Kike Martín (bass) and Matías Famá (drums), opening the band to new musical frontiers they explore without complexes.
After signing to Art Gates Records in 2019, they released Medusa's Love Story, a semi-conceptual work built on the premise: "what would have happened if Medusa had fallen in love with one of the men she petrified?" The album served as Heleven's calling card and positioned them on the national scene. Their first Spanish tour alongside Headon set the foundations of their future sound.
During the summer of 2020 they recorded Into the Oceans, released in March 2021. The album marked a firm step in maturity: more metal, darker and more direct, built on aggressive riffs over a groove-driven rhythm section. The themes revolve around anxiety and depression, exploring the melancholic and tragic with a hopeful ending. Recorded at H11 Sound Studios (Motril, Granada) and mastered by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Evergrey, Amaranthe).
In February 2023 they opened a new chapter with New Horizons PT.1, an album with a double reading: on one hand, lyrics about the social and environmental problems of today's world; on the other, a deliberate search for new sounds and different sensations in the composition. The diptych closed in 2024 with New Horizons PT.2, the second act of the journey begun a year earlier.
Aggressive, heavy soundscapes, cinematic melodies and deep lyrics are Heleven's leitmotiv. In 2026 the band confirms dates at Cuervo Blanco Fest (Almería, May), Noise Chapel Fest (Valencia, May), Rock Imperium Festival (Cartagena, July) and Leyendas del Rock (Villena, August).

"The voice of their singer and guitarist Higinio Ruiz is so ideally fitted to the alternative rock scene — moderately high with a smoky tinge in it, varying from meditative monotonousness to emotional cries."
"Heleven are growing and shaping up as one of the most solid promises of national alternative metal."
